Project “Smart Crutches”
Lowenstein Hospital is a partner in the Smart Crutches project under which a prototype of special crutches was developed.
A bio feedback system installed in the crutches measures the pressure applied by the body to the crutches during use, and their location, and monitors other data such as the user’s pulse, the angles of movement, the stroke, vibrations and more.
The crutches have a special application which can analyze the motion and the situation of the user’s body, and can provide advance warning of incorrect use or changes in the use that can indicate harm or trauma to the joints.
Another innovation that has been developed in the Smart Crutches is the possibility to answer a cell-phone call while continuing to walk with the crutches.
